Episode 8 · The Customer

§2The Customer

The calculation ended last season. Its terminus was Ji Ji — After Completion; its judgment was 初吉終亂, auspicious at the beginning, disorder at the end; and I am living the front half of those four characters through my account balance.

Action — months now — none.

The list of excuses is long and every item on it is true. The timing of a catastrophe cannot be calculated — true. Moving now is early — probably true. I have served a term already, I know what erosion is, and shade.md still has entries that won't close — all true. I know where the entrance is to the road that ends as the grain administrator — true.

At the bottom of the list is the shortest item and the truest.

Right now is good.

In my administrator days, I wrote the firewall clause myself. The moment I start making money on window information, I am no longer an administrator but a customer. Customers cannot quit — back then, that was a wall between the window and the portfolio, and I kept the wall. I keep it still. The window is closed; I earn nothing from window information.

The problem is the case the clause never contemplated. What I am receiving now is the dividend of this world itself. The world of the Ru pays a monthly dividend to whoever predicts, and I am a preferred customer of that world. What I have failed to quit is not the account. It is the ease.

I wrote last time that the practice of hating failed. Now I know the last reason why.

A beneficiary cannot hate.

Ember's third line came back to me. The probability that you will come to hate this is not a probability; it is a choice — Ember had seen all the way to here, even then. Seen what piles up on the far side of the choice. Monthly, as dividends.
